Security

Valuables

We encourage residents to keep no or little cash, or valuables in their room. There is a locked drawer for the security of small items and residents are encouraged to use it; as well, personal insurance for valuable items is encouraged. The Home assumes no responsibility whatsoever for the loss or damage due to fire, theft or otherwise of residents’ valuables while they are located on Home property, however caused.

Security at Doors

There are keypads on all stairwell doors. As well there are keypads on both sides of the inside sliding doors at the Main Entrance. These doors will open when the correct code is entered.

The Receptionist also has the capacity to open the door when there is a resident unable to do it him or herself. A bell will be available for the resident to alert the Receptionist that someone needs attention.

Other existing security mechanisms

• Receptionist on duty when external doors are unlocked
• Only one main entrance
• Locked emergency exit doors, that unlock during fire alarms
• “Rounds” made by security personnel after hours

Signing Out

When residents leave the Home for an outing, they or their family member are asked to notify both Nursing staff on their unit and the Receptionist of their departure and intended time of return.
