When
it is necessary for the resident to see a doctor who has an office
outside St. Patrick's Home, usually a specialist, we expect the family
to accompany the resident to the appointment, in part because it helps
to reassure the resident.
When
this is not possible, Volunteer Services may be able to arrange
for a Medical Escort volunteer to accompany the resident on public
transportation (PARA Transpo, see
Transportation). The resident is expected to pay the fare both
ways for the volunteer and him/herself.
When
the family is not available, and no volunteer can be arranged, the
medical appointment must be re-scheduled or the family can hire an
escort to accompany the resident. |
