St. Pat’s is pleased
to introduce a new elective health care option. Starting in May 2009,
Massage Therapy becomes available onsite to residents, staff and
volunteers. Residents can choose to receive the therapeutic benefits of
massage in the comfort of their rooms. For staff and volunteers, a new
space adjacent to the Wellness Room (across from the Chapel) has been
refurbished and transformed into a massage therapy treatment room. Two
Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs), Vinh-Phu Le and Robyn Keon are
available for appointments.
What is Massage
Therapy?
Massage Therapy is defined as the
assessment and manipulation of soft tissues and joints of the body to
effect a therapeutic response in the treatment and prevention of
physical dysfunction. RMTs work with the muscles, ligaments and
joints of the body to help its ability to repair, maintain and prevent
injury(ies). Regular massage therapy treatments can help lower stress,
anxiety and pain which may be associated with acute and chronic
conditions that keep our sympathetic nervous systems working overtime.
Overall, we feel more energized, aware and strong.

How can I benefit
from Massage Therapy?
Massage may provide a
positive health improvement for almost everyone.
For example, those
with Parkinson’s disease, dementia, cancer, gastrointestinal disorders,
arthritis, a history of heart attack or stroke may find relief in
regular massage therapy treatments. Massage can help reduce symptoms
such as sleeplessness, chronic muscle tightness or spasticity,
constipation or anxiety. Family members often wonder what they can do to
help their loved one be more comfortable. Massage is an effective pain
management tool. Adding an RMT to a loved one’s health care team is an
effective health care choice.
Staff members or
volunteers experiencing anxiety or stress, tightness in muscles from
sitting too long or standing all day or trying to manage overuse
injuries like carpel tunnel syndrome or repetitive strain injuries may
benefit from regular massage therapy. Muscle strain caused from over use
of muscles from a repetitive activity or held tight from stress can
cause days missed at work and chronic pain. Regular massage therapy
sessions can help repair, maintain and prevent injury. Massage Therapy
is a pro-active way to maintain your health – and it feels great too!
What Is the Cost for
this Service?
