St. Patrick's Home has a very
vibrant, 200+ volunteer program that provides assistance throughout the
entire facility in an incredible variety of volunteer positions.
These people supplement and enhance the work provided by the paid
employees, enriching the lives of the residents in many, many ways.
One area where volunteers find great
satisfaction is in working in the Day Program one day a week. The
Day Program runs from Monday to Friday. On each day, approximately
twenty seniors arrive around 9:30, are greeted by the volunteers of the
day, and are assisted with their coats and are served coffee or tea and a muffin
in the Day Program Lounge. Once everyone has settled in, the Day
Members, volunteers and a staff member usually head to the Auditorium
where a program designed for the interests of that day's group take
place. Around 11:30, the group starts up to the Main Dining
Room for their hot meal taken together. The volunteers are free at
this point to eat together, but stay close to the clients in case a program member
needs assistance. After lunch, there is another program with the
volunteers assisting and around 2:30 the group starts gathering back in the Day
Program Lounge to get ready to leave and the day ends.
