WELCOME  PAGE

St. Patrick's Home Outreach Program today consists of the Seniors' Day Program and the Short Stay - or Respite - Program.

The predominant goal of the Outreach Program is to enable the client to remain in the community for as long as possible, and to give the caregiver some degree of relief (a few hours per week in the case of the Day Program, and stays of seven to thirty days, to a maximum of 90 days/year in the case of the Short Stay Program).

The Program originally began, in 1980, as the Seniors' Day Care Program, and was the first of its kind in the Ottawa area.  Over the years, it has been supported by monies from the City of Ottawa and the provincial government, as well as co-payment from the clients.  It is now known officially as the Seniors' Day Program.

For a brief period of time, supported by a grant from the Trillium Foundation, the Home offered a "Frail Elderly Program", which had as its clients people suffering from Alzheimer-type dementias.  This program met an obvious need; however, due to insufficient government funding, it closed after three years.

In more recent years, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care introduced the Short Stay Program (Respite) and St. Patrick's Home applied to participate in this, and was accepted.
