How many people live at St. Patrick's Home?

St. Patrick's Home has 202 beds.  Two of those beds are reserved for the Respite Program.  The Home has five (5) Resident Home Areas (RHAs)for the residents:  Ground Floor, First Floor, Second Floor, Third Floor and the Special Care Unit.

What are the rooms like?

Since St. Pat's has been built in stages (the original building in 1964, and an addition in 1986) with renovations along the way, there is no "typical" room in size or configuration.  Each room contains a bed, chair, a bureau and closet space sufficient for seasonal clothing.  The private rooms can be of different sizes, some with private washrooms, some with shared washrooms.

Are my personal belongings insured?

St. Patrick's Home does not insure the personal belongings of any resident.  Residents are encouraged to obtained personal insurance for their own belongings that they brings to the Home.

Where do I keep my wallet/purse and important papers?

Residents are issued a key to their rooms and a key to the top drawer of their bureau and are encouraged to keep personal valuables locked up when not on their person.  At the same time, we remind people that we cannot be held responsible for the loss of any articles and suggest that particularly valuable articles not be brought to the Home, either important papers or valuable possessions.

Is there a bank at St. Patrick's Home?

Residents can have their money deposited in a Resident Trust Account, managed by St. Patrick's Home Business Office.  The resident can pay bills from the Trust Account and can withdraw money from it for pocket money.  [...read more...]

How will I get to outside appointments?

We encourage families to be available to take you to outside medical appointments.

Can I go out to a meal with my family?

We encourage Residents to maintain as much activity with their family and former community as they are able. We do ask that the resident or family member check with the nurse and let the Receptionist know when they are going out, for security reasons.

Can my family eat with me at St. Patrick's Home?

Family members and friends are encouraged to visit in the Home, including at meal times.  When you know that someone is coming for a meal, inform the supervisor in the Nutritional Service office, and they will arrange a special place for you and your family.  The cost per meal for visitors is very reasonable.

Are there physicians available at St. Patrick's Home?

There are several physicians, and each of them has a particular day that they come to the Home.  They also share "on-call" services for the Home for overnight, weekend and holiday services. Residents are encouraged to use the services of one of these in-house physicians.

How long is the waiting list?

Waiting lists for all long term care homes funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care are controlled by the Community Care Access Centre (CCAC).  As well, waiting times will depend on when you applied for admission, what type of room you applied for, and what type of care you need. It is best to call CCAC to find out from them the length of the waiting list.
